If your apartment is cold, a pro tip (maybe most of y'all already know this) is to not poir the hot pasta water down the drain but instead keep it around in a container and let it warm the room as it cools. (Not that it makes a ton of difference… maybe this is one of those penny-wise, pound-foolish plans, but it's just so wasteful to toss away heat you've already paid for. 勿体無い) Be mindful that those containers can become growing ground for disease so don't use the containers for food right away and don't drink that water.

Do not pour the pasta in there! Only the water.

Use a colander — my pasta pot has a built in sieve in the lid so only the water pours out.

It's too dry here in my apt in the winter so that's not a problem. For those in more humid situations (why are you even making pasta…), maybe there can be enclosed containers that don't let out all the steam?
