#amreading “Apocalypse Nyx” by Kameron Hurley. Gritty SF action-thriller (actually a collection of novellas). Tough women. Guns. Bug-based technology. Recommended if you like those things, or if you like grizzled action-movie protagonists but wish they weren’t all guys.
@ghost_bird Huxley?
@Efi Hurley. No Brave New Worlds here.
@ghost_bird aaaaah, ok, everything makes sense now
@ghost_bird I enjoyed the Nyx books a lot, although I did get icked out a bunch by the bugtech
@srol It took me while to try them because of the bugs, but it's OK for me because we see them though the characters' eyes as an unremarkable part of the world.
@ghost_bird Heck yes, I love Kameron Hurley. Can't wait to get my hands on Apocalypse Nyx!
@ghost_bird Kameron Hurley has the gritty action genre down pretty damn well... The Stars Are Legion is quite the dark experience too. Same (but different) with the Worldbreaker Saga books. Would recommend them all.
@galaxis I enjoyed The Stars Are Legion but I like Nyx better. I was burned out on big multi-character fantasy for a long time so I avoided the Worldbreaker Saga - maybe I’ll give it a go when the last part comes out.
@ghost_bird Seems I know what to read next then...
@ghost_bird omg Kameron Hurley is *the best*
(“Where’s the information from the safe, Nyx?”
“I tell you and you kill me.”
“I kill you regardless.”
“Then I’ll die knowing I pissed you off.”)
