@vga_dreams 256 colors really doesn't look half-bad!

@KitRedgrave dithering is pretty cool and looks great with the softness inherent with CRT monitors of the era

@vga_dreams I really loved Windows 98 themes. I remember that, when I received my first computer, who was running under Windows XP, I was really disappointed to not find something like that on it.

@Sylvhem I'm guessing it was seen as more of a frivolous thing as XP included a fancy redesign

@vga_dreams @Sylvhem XP still supported the old 95 Plus!/98/2000/Me-style themes, though, they just changed the UI for them drastically (because of the uxtheme engine, and there being themes that weren't based on Classic).

@Sylvhem also, it seems a bit of a shame that watercolor wasn't chosen over luna, it felt like a way better attempt to take notes from Apple's Aqua UI betaarchive.com/wiki/index.php

@vga_dreams Oh, I didn't know about Watercolor. Looks nice.
To be fair, I really liked Luna too.

@vga_dreams @Sylvhem I feel like Watercolor was really doing its own thing, taking notes from the "webby" design language that was creeping in with the Windows 98 and the Windows 2000/Me design changes, rather than anything related to Aqua.

Of course, it wasn't actually properly "designed" - it was merely a theme to stress-test uxtheme.dll. But it still looked far better than Luna to me...

@vga_dreams Gosh, I remember that all too well, along with needing to reinstall the OS every 4-6 months!

@vga_dreams Many hours were spend altering the themes. also there was some kind of software to create themes visually... too much wasted time xD.
