the us helped end ww2, but while in austria and germany being a nazi is frowned upon, in the US they're running (for) political offices

I've been ruminating over laws written "fairly" - where *all* people have access to something (gun, speech, ...) - or "unbiased" - *all* people are undiscriminated against (hiring, firing, ...). So far I think these laws exist to maintain the status quo. Really protecting rights would put the ruling class in danger instead of equal protection.
That's my hot take. But what are you thinking? How would you rephrase the 1st Amend., if you could?
