@kibi there's also people like me who can't use git and are stuck with github just because there's no gui-based git clients that support literally anything else

@kibi I agree to some extent, but it's important to identify problems so that people can muster the energy to work on fixing them. The same above criticisms can be made about centralized social networks vs decentralized social networks, but people are trying in this space to make it better.

@kibi Or, here's a crazy thing. How about people actually learn the tools they're going to use? How much of Github that people use is the Git part? I suspect many people wouldn't notice a switch to Mercurial or even Subversion.

fwiw Gitea supposedly is light enough to run on a Pi so the HW requirements are not onerous.

Still I suspect for a lot of small projects they don't want to self-host because of the discoverability bugbear

So, I guess you never tried Gitlab, did you? Which has a floss version and so can be decentralised.
