I was reading about project zomboid, a zombie survival simulator with very deep survival mechanics. A lot of complaints about the game center on how after the first leg of the game where you build up a sustainable base in an isolated area (which is super hard to do), boredom becomes your enemy. You stockpile a bunch of supplies but then one day just get bored and make a rash decision and die in an instant. In a way it is bad game design, but in another it is perfect game design.
