@elomatreb @vfrmedia I like this idea! Could we also have sunset at the same time then and shorten the hours in between? Then I would finally have more time to hibernate.

@elomatreb @vfrmedia time is a Social Construct (tm) anyway, right? 🐈I once read an interesting book about how standard time was invented because of the railway. Before that, train timetables were pretty much useless because times varied so much between cities.

@masu @vfrmedia Yeah there's lots of stories like that, I'm not sure how much I believe them. I once read one that claimed that the driving force behind the concept of times of day was factory work, which I guess has some plausibility?

@elomatreb @vfrmedia I think the book I read also talked about this - and that this was part of the reason daylight saving was introduced, which apparently not everyone liked because the factory workers had to get up so early that they didn't want to have more light in the evening (but rather sleep). Or something like that. It's been so long that I read this but it was very interesting!

@elomatreb @masu previous to this time intervals were usually devised around religious observance, but this was itself based around appearance of day and night. I once heard a docu about a clock museum in België on Radio Maria Nederland, and even centuries ago a clockmaker had invented a device with punched cards to adjust for the changing length of day/night over the years so the bells sounded at reasonable times..
