I got my used desklamp-style iMac G4 from eBay. Looks like I'm going to need a pack of blank CDs so I can burn a copy of the #macppc port of #OpenBSD, and I'm going to need a wifi signal repeater with an Ethernet jack so I can connect it to the home WLAN.

And I'll need a hostname.

These are all demons from my Starbreaker stories, so maybe "sathariel" or "adramelech" next.

@starbreaker Can you post how you're doing the install? OpenBSD is intimidating πŸ˜–

@deathmlem Sure, I can do that, but what do you find intimidating about the #OpenBSD install? Maybe I can help.

I'll be following the instructions at openbsd.org/macppc.html for my iMac, but if you're using amd64 gear you'll want the main FAQ at openbsd.org/faq/index.html.

@starbreaker I've had a lot of problems dealing with installation media. My Mac Mini's dvd drive is toast, so I can only boot from USB. Tried FreeBSD and that failed several times.

@deathmlem I haven't used FreeBSD since 4.4, so I can't help you there. Have you considered taking your mini Mac to a shop and getting the DVD drive replaced?

@starbreaker I guess I'm just annoyed that I can't seem to get a bootable USB drive working. I can just buy a new DVD drive and do a bit of surgery but it's not my top priority
