i've been using mastodon less than twitter recently and i think it's cuz using mastodon has become kinda exhausting. I feel like I can't say anything that's particularly... bold or sharp... without it becoming a network-wide Discourse everything is passive-aggressive and complaining that we're talking about Tough Shit. plus my mentions will be swarmed with random strangers with poor social skills cracking inappropriate unfunny jokes or relating personal information i don't want to know.

I don't like how I can't say Google w/o someone coming in and telling me to use FOSS. It's exhausting. Even my jokes I've been putting more on twitter cuz even if they're received better here I'll also get tons of ppl Not Getting The Joke and demanding I explain the joke... I have friends on here and I like using this as a more personal place to hang out, but for Content, Opinions, Jokes... twitter is less tiring to post on

I think a lot of Mastodon... it's walking on eggshells not because everyone gets offended but more cuz it feels very fragile here. We always CW Trump but even if you CW it if you post abt him a lot ppl will subtoot u for giving a shit about impending apocalypse. Everyone here doesn't want to engage with the panic and anxiety outside and I Get It That's Super Real but it can also feel suffocating

A part of this is just that on Mastodon I'm Super popular and influential, while on Twitter I have some popular mutuals but I'm not personally popular; and I'm sure if I was twitter famous it'd be exhausting to post there too.

@shel this is literally why I purged accounts and switched instances every few months until i managed to live in relatively comfy obscurity (save a few mutuals) over here

@thornyonmain I don't wanna have to remake tho i like attention too much and have remade so many times like i just wanna stick with this one but have ppl understand if i say "i'm sad" i don't wanna hear about your history of abuse out of nowhere; and if i say "we gotta do something about bad stuff in the world!!" i don't wanna hear "well gOOD for you that you can handle the horrible weight that and aren't 110% crushed under body dysphoria 24/7 and unable to think through bad feelings"

it was in response to a joke where I was like "Job interview tip: Holler cuss words at your future boss and set the place on fire" or something absurd like that
