i actually have terrible taste in coffee
case in point: i actually like starbucks coffee even though everyone says it's burnt to hell
the bitterness is a feature dammit
@KitRedgrave Try a french press of Kenya AA.
Add cream, nothing else.
@jankoekepan i drink coffee totally black, right out of the pot
@KitRedgrave Broaden your horizons! Experience new vistas! Embrace the madness!
Well, the madness can come later. After the hideous revelations and the manic, despairing laughter.
@jankoekepan I agree with @KitRedgrave , no cream, nothing. Coffee is black and bitter or isn’t.
You can feel the power of the creamy side.
Search your heart; you know it to be true.
@jankoekepan The power of the creamy side affects my guts rather than heart, and it is not pretty.
@KitRedgrave
@KitRedgrave same
i dunk like two big spoons of sugar (in my defense into a proportionally big mug of coffee) and people always get on my case about it
vanilla stuff from sbux is always nice even though i only treat myself to it like. once a year
@KitRedgrave You might find you like blends with chicory, too, if you can find them where you are.
@KitRedgrave (I’m not a fan of Starbucks myself, but if you’ve got a clear idea of what you like then I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong.)
@ghost_bird i like caffeine and i like the bitter oily taste of coffee with hints of a bunch of other stuff going on
like i had a french press the other day and i was kind of disappointed because it didn't taste strong enough
@KitRedgrave I like Javan and Sumatran style that’s very strong but not as bitter and oily so I prefer filter to french press. But at work, I just dump some grounds in a mug and fill up with boiling water, Polish style.
@KitRedgrave I prefer their lattes to good ones even though I empirically know they are substandard. NO SHAME!
@KitRedgrave I like it too, for that very reason. I love bitter things.
if they made coffee with cayenne in it i would probably drink that, too.
wakey wakey
@KitRedgrave Honestly I bet you could make something super tasty with espresso + cayenne
@mhu2141ai @KitRedgrave I've made espresso and Turkish coffee with all kinds of spices, but my favourite by far is still "the original" cardamom
@meena @KitRedgrave I wouldn't have imagined this working well, but I love the taste of cardamom, so I'll have to give that a shot someday
@mhu2141ai @KitRedgrave there's no shooting involved in making Turkish (or Arabic, or Bosnian, or etc…) coffee
it happens in slow motion
@meena @KitRedgrave I've never tried turkish. How consistent does grind size have to be for good results? I have a lido2 I use for drip, but not really anything espresso-geared
@mhu2141ai @KitRedgrave the grind for Turkish coffee has to be the finest you can imagine, like fairy dust
@mhu2141ai my partner got me the porlex mini and holy shit i just saw its price
i can do a nice grind for aeropress / pourover, and i use the same setting for my bialetti (but a different roast)
for Turkish coffee, i squeeze it all the way shut, basically (and use the darker, espresso roast) i also put the cardamom seeds in with the coffee
@meena Oh, if you can get something you like with a porlex I'm probably good
@mhu2141ai i love the porlex, it's almost like home
@KitRedgrave they do, and you have ordered it before
@Trev oh yeah, that one time in austin.
it was really good too!
@KitRedgrave @Trev my little local coffee shop does a Mayan mocha, basically a latte with Ghirardelli chocolate and a metric buttload of cayenne, with a little cinnamon and nutmeg. I treat myself once a week or so. A good wake-up drink.
@cheesegrits @KitRedgrave That sounds lovely.
@KitRedgrave @Trev I actually have them leave out the cinnamon. Just not a fan of cinnamon in coffee. Weird, as I like it in pretty much anything else.
@KitRedgrave You have terrible taste in coffee indeed.
